With time my left hand/wrist & arm, will develope osteoarthritis, due to the effects of Carpal Instability.

Re:ostreoarthritis - 2008/04/28 15:43 Hi....Ive had both hips replaced, like Naomi...used to be diagnosed as osteo.,but in recent times changed to spcoritic...Doesnt seem to make any differance to the condition (much the same)but it makes me feel a bit superiour due to less people having it xxx
Also have A.S. and the one thing you notice during the least flair-up times ...is just hour tireing the condition makes you feel.....
As any person with a chronic painful condition knows...our pain threshold increases with age...but the fight can have a negative effect on your stamina xxxxxxx

Re:ostreoarthritis - 2008/05/05 14:49 The trouble in the early times is..it makes you feel tired and the pain is restrictive.I was told to rest...which is now decided, the worst thing...He needs to keep his joints moving as much as possible...Not so much strenuouse exercise ,more erobic.Swimming is great and if he can go about four or five time a week it will keep things at bay a bit......The next thing is to contact a real specialist....Get him enrolled with NASS (national ankylosing spond. society)....If possible get a referal to Dr Calin at The Royal Rheumatology Hospital,Bath.....They do wonderful things there..all on the NHS xxxxx
Also worth looking at is get him taking cod liver oil tablets..they will kick in after about three months...make sure he sticks with it......Then the big thing....Get his doctor (hospital specialist)to get him on weekly injections of Embrel (itas a wonderful drug and helps mobility and reduces pain to a bearable level xxxxx

Re:ostreoarthritis - 2008/05/05 23:18 Hi

I let him (wayne) read what you had said and he is very greatful for your advise. He has been attending Yoga for a few months but has been that sore around his rips and hips that he is not really able to do much of it at the minute. At the min he has been waiting on new drug trials coming in, and afew weeks ago he got news that he is being called, either injection, drip or tablet form. hope one of these helps him, he is on the morphine patches but they only help so much, the bad side effect with him from them is sweating, jus on his forehead. With the new trials coming in lets hope it will be of benefit.

Re:ostreoarthritis - 2008/05/06 08:20 Fingers crossed Naomi....The exercises need to be arobic and non strenouse....No alcohol, acidics or high levels of bread during this early period.....Plenty of fish oils and if he can get them naturaly (mackrel, salmon, pilchards etc) all the better xxx
