Pet Bereavement - 2007/06/04 12:10 Hiya

Has anyone had the saddening experience of losing a pet, that was more than just a pet to them?

About 4 weeks, I sadly had to have my cat Sparky put to sleep, it was a HUGE shock to find out he was terminally ill. Went to the vet on the Friday and by Saturday he had to go back and be put to sleep. It broke my heart, as he really was like my baby, he would cuddle up right next to me every night in bed, follow me to the bathroom (couldn't have a shower etc on my own, bless him lol).

He meant the world to me and I miss him greatly, be great to contact others who know what I am going through.

Thanks

Julie

Re:Pet Bereavement - 2007/06/04 20:19 my first Cat Zaphy had to be put to sleep about nine years ago. I still have his collar in a glass box on my bookshelf. Try to remember the good times you had with your cat.

Re:Pet Bereavement - 2007/06/05 00:20 Hi juicy,
I'm new here, but just wanted to say hello and tell you a little about how groun up with cats, and now have three of my own. I love them so much. They all come from the same litter but are so different in there way's. One would never go outside if we didn't pick her up and put her out, one loves to climb under the blankets with you and sleep with its head on your pillow and body under the covers and the other one, well shes like a kid that is in need of constand attention and never leaves you alone for one min.

Are you thinking of getting another cat? And if so what breed would it be?

I hope you didn't mind me saying hello and look forward to chatting to you again soon.

Re:Pet Bereavement - 2007/08/05 05:21 Hi, I really miss my 7 year old black Labrador. He fell ill, we hoped the vet would fix him, but sadly they found cancer. He was such a lovely dog, full of life, always bouncing around and looking out for me. Three weeks have past, but it seems more like three years, I so miss him, life won't be the same any more,I feel very empty without him.

Re:Pet Bereavement - 2007/10/07 02:53 My Doberman died of some kind of kidney or liver disease a few years ago. I don't really remember exactly what it was now. But I do remember that I cried. Yes, a grown man cried over lost of a dog. But I did NOT shed a tear when my own Father died of lung cancer recently.

Re:Pet Bereavement - 2008/03/18 20:59 Hi there, very sorry to hear about your loss, I do indeed know what your going threw. As you can see from my foto im an animal lover. Dogs is really what I have been brought up with, my recently Im got a cat with my boyfriend, he already had a cat, but we got one togother, my own dog 'lucky', had to stay with my parents, as her and the cat (one at the time) didnt get on. But in regard to your loss of your loving pet, this is the thing about animals, unfort they dont live very long, and as you found out it can happen in a matter of days. Some people say you should get another the replace the pet you have lost, personally myself, I would give it a few weeks. Like all deaths, you have to greeve for your pet you have just lost. There is even doctors who spealise in this kind of bereavement, with all deaths, a pet is no different.

Afew years ago I lost two dogs, two of the cheekest dogs you will ever meet, chichuhas, one long coat, (real beauty), sally was her name, and then extremely cheeky Dolly, (she would take on a great dane she had the heart of a lion, unfort for her she didnt know she was onl 6 or 7 pounds of weigh) !! LOL

One day my mum was opening the gate to the another dog in to the house, she was in a rush to get him intio the house, but in her rush, she forgot to lock the gate behind her, Sally and Dolly got hit by a car and both were killed. I dont think I will ever try and understand why the car didnt stop, the driver just hit them and drove the car on. I think im actually glad this happend becasue I dont know what I, or my family would have done to them, with the anger and our emoitons mixed up when this happend, i dont know what would have heppend.

The heart mends itself, but the mind doesnt forget.
