Nearly £40m will be spent improving access to Scottish stations by 2015

Five more railway stations in Scotland are to undergo improvements to improve disabled access.

Work will be carried out at Easterhouse and Hyndland stations in Glasgow, Linlithgow in West Lothian, Montrose in Angus and Perth station.

It will be funded through the £370m UK-wide Access for All scheme, which runs until 2015.

Over the period, £39m will be spent on projects in Scotland to improve disabled access to the rail network.

Scottish Transport Minister, Stewart Stevenson, said: "This funding will make it easier for disabled passengers, parents with prams and even those with heavy luggage to get around our train stations.

"We have already seen the results of such investment at stations like Waverley, Haymarket and Queen Street, but it is important action is taken at Scotland's local stations as well."
