This holiday is one we will not forget in a hurry as while on the plane 2 hours out from Cape Verde the Captain came on and said due to serious sandstorms in Cape Verde we where being diverted to Tenerife and will have to stay there over night!! So we ended up at the hotel we stayed in 2 years ago ( Riu Palace Tenerife) over night while we waited for the sandstorms to clear.
We eventually got to Cape Verde the next day, the Riu Touareg was 30 minutes from the airport along new roads with some old bumpy roads it was an adventure getting to the hotel but when you see it in the distance glistening it looks like something from Indiana Jones! It is a huge place that takes your breath away!! Once you arrive the staff are so friendly. We had an adapted room and it was a huge room on the ground floor, right opposite the main restaurant. The toilet had grab rails, only moan shower had no seat! I loved the layout, restaurants in one section, main entertainment in one section with large bars. The pools where split into hotel block sections so the pool we preferred was a good walk away, my poor husband had to walk down every morning to put towels down so we got beds!!
The food was good, there was a good selection and there was also a disabled section so we got a table close to the food area as the restaurant was busy every night!! We did try two specialist restaurants The Italian which the food was not good at and the Asian which the food was delicious and I wish we had booked again.
The drinks where not named brands and they made their own version of a baileys which was hit and miss most nights!
Over all it was a good holiday the weather was excellent except for the 1st 3 days as the sand smog cleared from the sandstorms. Would we go back to this hotel maybe but it's not in my 5.
