My name is Muhasa Jockbed Biira, and I am a married mother of eight wonderful children—four boys and four girls. I live with my family in Busamba Village, Busamba Parish, Mbatya Subcounty, Bundibugyo District, in the foothills of the beautiful Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda.
Before I was involved in a road traffic accident, I was the main breadwinner for my family. The accident left me with a permanent disability affecting my right thigh and right leg, making it very difficult to walk long distances or carry out the demanding physical work that my family depended on. Since then, life has become much more difficult, and we now survive mainly through small-scale farming.
The financial challenges caused by my disability have greatly affected my children's education. At the moment, only four of my eight children are attending school, while the other four have had to stay at home because we cannot afford school fees and other educational expenses. As a mother, seeing my children miss out on education is one of the greatest challenges I face, but I remain hopeful that brighter days lie ahead.
Despite these hardships, I have not given up. I continue doing whatever work my health allows, and I strive every day to care for my family. My disability has taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of hope. I believe that every challenge can be overcome with determination, encouragement, and genuine friendship.
