Ahhh..now your opening a whole new can of worms...in so much that it is more down to referees view...
But original offside meant that at least one defender ( other than the goalkeeper)must be between the furthest attacker at the point of the ball being passed xxxx

Youve got me there...Apart from the fact that New Years Day has always been more inportant....If I had to guess it would have something to do with the Highland Clearances by the English xxxx

It was banned in the 1580's in the time of John Knox,because it was believed to be papist in origin.It did not become a pulic holiday in Scotland until 1958.The ban was strictly enforced by law.
